Sending as an alias address in Office 365
If you’re not already familiar, aliases are extra addresses that are configured on your Office 365 account so you can receive email at those specified email addresses. Office 365 offers a feature that allows you to send as those configured addresses as well if you ever need to, with no additional licensing or costs. This article will go over how to use this feature in Outlook on the Web and Outlook for PC.
Please note
- At the time of publishing for this article the send as alias feature is not available when using Outlook for MacOS though it will likely become available in a future update; if you need to use this feature on a Mac then you must use Outlook on the Web.
- This feature is not enabled by default for an Office 365 organization – it must first be enabled by an administrator. If we manage your Office 365 and you’re interested in this feature please reach out and we’ll assist
- If an alias was recently added for your mailbox, it may take up to 24 hours for it to become usable and functional with the send as alias feature
Outlook on the Web
- Sign in to Outlook on the Web with your Office 365 account
- Begin composing a new message
- Click on the From field (if you don’t see the From field you’ll need to enable it; click on the 3 dots icon above the To field then click Show From)
- Click on Other email address… then enter the email address of the alias you want to send as and then click on Use this address: (…) to set it
- Fill out the rest of the fields and compose the email, then Send it when you’re done – when the email is received the From address will be the alias you set it to
