Please note that Apple update and make changes to iPhones/iPad’s somewhat frequently so these instructions may not apply to the current version on your device. In most cases the locations of these settings are in similar locations so you may find yourself exploring where the setting is if these instructions are not perfectly accurate.

These instructions will guide you to add the most common types of email account to an iOS device (iPhone, iPad, etc) so you can properly receive and send emails on your iOS device.

Office 365 / Microsoft Exchange

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Look for Mail inside the settings app and tap on it
  3. Tap the Add Account button
  4. Select the Exchange type of account from the list
  5. Enter the information for your account, if prompted choose to Sign In (as opposed to Configure Manually)
  6. Finally select which items you want to sync to this account (Mail, Calendar, etc)

You should now have the account fully configured, if you open up the Mail app you should see your emails as well as being able to send from that account.

IMAP / POP accounts

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Look for Mail inside the settings app and tap on it
  3. Tap the Add Account button
  4. Select the Other account type from the list
  5. Tap Add Mail Account
  6. Enter your name, email address, password and set a description for it if you’d like, then tap Next
  7. Select IMAP or POP (we recommend IMAP if possible) for the account type
  8. Enter the host names, user names and passwords as necessary for both the incoming and outgoing mail server sections – you will have to refer to your email provider for what these fields should be if you don’t know. Tap Next in the top right when you’re done
  9. Finally you’ll be prompted if you want to synchronize and save notes on the account, it’s safe to leave the default settings and accept them

You should now have the account fully configured, if you open up the Mail app you should see your emails as well as being able to send from that account.

Delete an existing account

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Look for Mail inside the settings app and tap on it
  3. Tap on Accounts
  4. Tap on the email account you want to remove
  5. Scroll down and tap on Delete Account, then tap on Delete from My iPhone

Depending on how large the account is, it can take a few minutes to fully remove the account.
